o Job Seeking Skills Mini-workshops; and
o Online Vacancy and Events Notices for Part-time, Vacation and Graduate jobs.
A key feature of our Accounting programme is the inclusion of a period of industrial placement, otherwise known as Practical Training. This ranges from 6 to 8 weeks. A placement means that a student gets an opportunity for 'real world' experience in a 'proper job'. There are many advantages that accrue as a result of spending this time in a work environment, especially in relation to the level of experience and personal development for our students. The placement has also proven invaluable in helping our graduates secure employment after completion of their studies. In this respect the Department always encourages contacts in practice and industry to which the Department can place its students for industrial experience.
The Department is very active in research and consultancy work for local, national and international organisations. Previous work in these areas have been executed for United Nations Development Programme, Department for International Development, Parastatal Sector Reform Commission, National Business Council, The Ministry of Constitutional Affairs and Justice, Ministry of Water, Urban Water and Sewerage Authorities, Tanzania Revenue Authority, Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, etc.
Members of the Department also occasionally work with consulting multinationals as associate consultants. Some of these firms include Ernst and Young, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, etc.
The teaching faculty in the Department of Accounting includes professional accountants and it is able to blend academic expertise with the credibility gained from professional and consultancy activities. The staff also have an excellent record in attracting research funding.
The Department routinely invites outside speakers from both the accounting profession and industry to expose students to current practices within the workplace. Speakers have included senior members of staff from Price Waterhouse Coopers, Tanzania Revenue Authority, the Standard Chartered Bank, Stock Market Brokers, etc.
